Thoughts from the field worker

This website is still in it's infant years really, and I am continiously looking into expanding it, to make it a great resource of information, support, and  inspiration for Hawke's Bay carers.  As field worker of CfC I facilitate our monthly support group meetings, and I realize that the biggest source of support, strength, and inspiration for carers comes from fellow carers. It is the peer support!

Each person might be at a different stage on their journey as carer, but in a way they are all in the same boat. This creates a group atmosphere that encourages openness and acceptance.

The sense of trust amongst carers is amazing, which allows them to share with each other the 'inside story'. They know that they wont be judged for how they sometimes feel and think, all the things that aren't so nice to listen to. It is these experiences that carers need to express, and others need to understand, in order to give carers well deserved relief from negative emotions such as resentment, anger, bitterness, anxiety, depression, dispair, and guilt.

I would love to hear from carers who want to tell about their internal reality. The guts of being a carer, all the unspoken thoughts and feelings you think you can't express, because you fear that others might think you are a bad person.

I hear from carers that this 'coming out' brings great relief.

I am hoping that sharing these experiences with others on this website will give the writers and the readers a sense of relief and ok-ness.
